Healthstyle Challenge: Day 1 - Asana and Intention

Asana: Uttasana
Intention: Be POSITIVE
-Uttanasana - forward extentions or standing forward bend...
Begin standing feet hip with apart, comfortably, moving around on your feet to find your weight and balance. Bring your hands to heart center and extend your arms straight up (urdhva hastasana or upward salute) - here you can incorporate a slight back bend if your body feels willing, plant your roots in your feet and begin that slight backbend from your feet- up through your legs, your hips, up through your spine - once hands are extended up - slight backend - on the exhale - fold from your waist down to uttanasa - hands down to feet or where ever they may fall. (Sorry no points for touching the floor!) :) You are a hinge at your waist moving your torso towards the floor. Once folded, let your head, neck, shoulders, arms hang - tighten your quads - bend at your knees to release tension in your hamstrings - try grabbing your elbows - moving your head/torso from side to side - bending both knees together or one at a time or remain still - but Breathe!
When you are ready, straighten your legs, tighten your quads and slowing roll back up your spine one vertebrate at a time.
In this pose - the spine is given an intense stretch, practice with love for yourself and body - only do what feels right. It can be seen as a relaxing asana but you are still working those legs.
